Tulsa Shootout Erupts as Yantis Is DQ’d, Flud Crowned Winner

The Tulsa Shootout delivered late drama after post-race inspections wiped out the original A-Class result, turning a race-winning celebration into a controversial reversal. What looked settled on the track changed quickly once officials completed technical checks, reshaping the podium in the event’s headline division.

After the inspection process, officials disqualified A-Class winner Jett Yantis, promoting Frank Flud to first place. Tulsa Shootout director of operations Matt Ward explained that multiple violations were found on Yantis’ car. Inspectors cited excessive cylinder head porting beyond the valve seats, irregularities in the cylinder head epoxy, and the presence of ceramic bearings in the transmission — all components that fall outside the rulebook. After engine and tech teams reviewed the findings together, officials ruled the car illegal and overturned the result.

Ward said the decision followed standard procedure, with parts cross-checked and evaluated to ensure consistency with the rules. Once inspectors confirmed the violations, the penalty was applied, officially certifying Flud as the A-Class winner. Daison Pursley and Garett Benson were elevated to second and third.

Flud admitted the win came with mixed emotions. He said he would have preferred to earn the victory outright on the track and thanked his supporters while acknowledging the awkward nature of inheriting the top spot. He remained active throughout the event at the River Spirit Expo Center, also competing in other classes with solid finishes.

Away from the A-Class controversy, the Tulsa Shootout still crowned several champions. Jonathan Beason won Non-Wing Outlaw, Pursley captured Winged Outlaw, Cullen Hutchison claimed Stock Non-Wing, Braxon Vasconcellos topped the Restricted division, and Jax Wittmer earned the Jr. Sprints victory. The outcome reinforced a familiar lesson at the Tulsa Shootout: final results aren’t official until post-race tech inspection is complete.
